Brown Spots And Pigmentation
Age spots and freckles are forms of pigmented lesions. In addition to using the
IPL for removal of brown spots, other benefits of this treatment include Improvements
in redness from Rosacea and a decrease in spider veins and broken capillaries. The
IPL produces smoother, even-toned, more youthful looking skin. With the development
of advanced laser technologies, these annoying brown spots can be safely and effectively
removed. The choice of technology used depends on many variables including your
skin type, the size and number of spots and other associated conditions that you
may want treated at the same time. The most well known therapy is Intense Pulsed
How do Brown Spots and Age Spots form?
Most brown spots that develop
later in life are caused by over exposure to the sun's damaging ultraviolet rays.
Pigmentation is color in your skin produced by melanin, a natural pigment that also
determines eye and hair color. However, if too much melanin is produced in one area,
the result is a brown patch on your skin ( brown spot or hyper-pigmentation.)
What type of post-treatment care is necessary?
An antibacterial ointment
will be initially applied to the area. A shower can be taken the next day, but avoid
scrubbing the treated area. Since most common pigmented lesions are caused by exposure
to ultraviolet sun rays, it is imperative that you always wear sunscreen. Failure
to wear a protective sunscreen will allow further sun damage to occur and result
in new pigmented lesions. We will recommend the appropriate level of sunscreen protection
for your specific skin type.
